Characteristics of the Education at the School of Nursing

The School of Nursing aims for nurses and public health nurses who are endowed with the latest specialized knowledge and skills, as well as a well-rounded character and strong ethical standard.
It aspires to have each and every one of its students acquire the following capabilities.

  1. The ability to provide nursing care while visualizing the ideal health conditions together with the patient by understanding characteristics of people’s lifelong development and lifestyles
  2. The ability to apply and develop skills in accordance with the various situations that occur on the front lines of health and medical care by having a thorough understanding of the underlying theory behind nursing techniques
  3. The ability to provide optimal service by cooperating with the relevant occupational categories that form health and medical care teams and respecting one another’s respective expertise
  4. The ability to acquire new knowledge and skills through one’s occupational life by continuing to be an autonomous learner

For this reason, the School of Nursing provides education based on the following characteristics.

An advanced curriculum that integrates theory and practice

We have adopted a general curriculum that structures the college’s principles and educational objectives into our learning content based on knowledge of nursing education. Around general education courses and specialized foundational courses, the students acquire specialized knowledge and skills in a systematic and stepwise manner while deepening their understanding of society, culture, and nature. It is devised in such a way so as to plant the seeds for having all of the students continue to grow on into the future in their capacity as nurses and public health nurses.

Small-group education taught by teaching faculty with a wealth of clinical experience

The teaching faculty is furnished with both a wealth of clinical experience and strong research capabilities, and so the students can take classes that are based upon the latest scientific research results and consistent with the real world. What is more, the number of teaching faculty per student is in the top class among nursing faculties at public universities nationwide, so that learning is promoted in an ideal environment in which the teaching faculty provides careful attention to every single student.

Training that is well-rounded both qualitatively and quantitatively

We have introduced practical training that starts from the students’ freshman year to ensure that they learn while relating to scientific knowledge in nursing and actual events. The training sites cover a wide range that is primarily focused on medical and welfare-related institutions within the prefecture. Furthermore, the practical training is comprised of small groups of five or six students that are always accompanied by one professor, associate professor, or instructor. Because of this the students are able to receive instruction that is suited to each individual’s level of proficiency in a clinical setting.

Classes in team cooperation in combination with the other faculty

Through joint classes with the School of Radiological Technology the students learn how to cooperate with other professionals and contribute to team medical care, etc.
