Regional Coordination Center

Gunma Prefectural College of Health Sciences’ Regional Coordination Center was newly established in FY2012 with the goal of contributing to improving the welfare of prefectural residents. It does this by giving the intellectual property, research results, and so forth that the college possesses in its capacity as a prefecturally established medical college to the residents, and also broadly to other educational institutions, medical institutions, health care workers, the government, and so on.

The Regional Coordination Center primarily carries out the following projects.

(1) Nursing Science Teacher Training Course

The center offers lectures, practice, and practical training aimed at nursing teaching faculty at places like nurse training institutes, of which there are 20 in the prefecture, and those who are in charge of practical guidance for nursing education in medical settings. The objective of this is to have them acquire the knowledge and skills that will enable them to adequately fulfill their roles as educators. Gunma Prefectural College of Health Sciences is the fourth college that offers these types of training courses throughout Japan, and it strives to maintain and raise the level of the teaching faculty at nurse training institutes and the like.

(2) Coordination Projects with Prefectural Hospitals

Four prefectural hospitals (Gunma Cardiovascular Center, Gunma Prefectural Cancer Center, Gunma Prefectural Psychiatric Medical Center, and Gunma Children’s Medical Center) and Gunma Prefectural College of Health Sciences undertake specific coordination projects at the organizational level geared towards resolving the challenges faced by each hospital.

(3) Support Projects for Research by Public Health Nurses and Nurses

<Support Project for Improving the Research and Health Instruction Skills of Public Health Nurses in the Prefecture>

This project provides ongoing cooperation for training projects for public health nurses that are organized by the Gunma Nursing Association. It also works on training on research techniques aimed at mid-level public health nurses, initiatives for joint research with municipal public health nurses, improving the skills of prefectural public health nurses, and raising the regional health level within the prefecture.

<Research Support Project for In-Service Nursing Staff>

This project aims to improve the research level of nursing personnel in hospitals in the prefecture by carrying out programs to support research activities that are aimed at hospital nurses.

(4) Radiology Education and Training Projects

<Radiation Therapy Workshops>

The center organizes radiation therapy educational program seminars in line with the International Training Program for Co-operative Experts in Clinical Oncology project that was compiled primarily by the University of Tsukuba as one of its plans for fostering cancer care professionals. Through this it disseminates and improves upon treatment techniques while also raising interest in health screenings that lead to the early detection of cancer.

<Support Project for Education on Radiation at Schools>

On account of revisions to the official curriculum guidelines, education on radiation will be incorporated into school education beginning in FY2012. Consequent upon this, the center will offer radiation education lectures aimed at school teaching faculty and assist them who are expected to provide education on radiation.

<Project for the Ongoing Education of Radiology Technicians>

As a project to improve the imaging techniques of radiology technicians within the prefecture, the center not only holds lectures that are aimed at having attendees acquire qualification as Professional MRI Technicians, but also conducts joint research and training sessions through the use of MRIs. Through these it strives to make it possible for radiology technicians to learn the latest knowledge and skills, while also increasing opportunities for the early detection of cancer and other diseases.

(5) Radiation Measurement and Assessment Projects

The center provides assistance regarding matters like guidance, assessments, and the implementation of countermeasures for the radiation measurements carried out by the prefecture and municipalities. This is done in the aim of providing safety and peace of mind to the prefectural residents through dosage assessments and the like.

(6) Education Dissemination Projects (Public Lectures, etc.)

The center proactively engages in activities that contribute to the local community by carrying out projects such as the public lectures and talks for prefectural residents that have mainly been carried out thus far in an ongoing manner.
